Our Program
Nuestra Ciencia is a multidisciplinary research program developed through a collaboration between the Liberal Studies and Biological Science departments at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Since its launch in 2021, the program has fostered a strong, ongoing partnership between the university and the local community, growing steadily in both reach and impact.
Our Students
Nuestra Ciencia focuses on the impact of bilingual microbiology education on both K-12 students and Cal Poly undergraduates. This initiative creates a unique opportunity to connect undergraduate students as mentors for Latinx youth, fostering a supportive peer-to-peer environment where all students can learn, grow, and succeed.

Bringing Microbiology to Bilingual Classrooms
Changing the world by eliminating microbiology misconceptions... one student at a time.
Lessons on Food Safety make students more confident when washing, chilling, separating, and cooking food.
Teaching about Disease Transmission and Prevention equips students with the knowledge of how to protect themselves and others by getting vaccinated.
By underlining the importance of good Hand Washing, students can better understand how to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.
